The Watchmen

It would be inaccurate to suggest that I liked Watchmen in its OG, comic form.  Or graphic novel, if you're feeling pretentious.  But I got into the movie, man.  I didn't fall in love by any means, but they cut a lot of the dead wood; there were some badass fight scenes; and, while they didn't close the planet size plot holes, they did reduce the size of them, which is commendable.

And by cutting around a fair amount of his shit, they made Rorschach into a strangely likable, kind of lovable fellow, which is weird since he's a crazy-ass, ultra conservative, crazy-ass, crazy guy.  But he's got some damn good lines and, spoiler alert, when, at the end, he said, "Never compromise," I actually said out loud, "Fuck yes."

Which is weird.  On so many levels.  But I guess maybe when you've got a guy as ridiculously far left as myself and a guy as ridiculously far right as him, maybe we circle back and run into each other somehow.  Which is kind of scary but, in a weird as hell kind of way, almost hopeful.

My favorite line from the book got clipped from the movie though: "American love, like coke in green glass bottles. They don't make it anymore."

I dig the language, and I dig the things it tells us about Rorschach, but of course he's wrong.  How do I know?  Because I love you all.

Get a beverage of your choice and never compromise.  Fuck yes.
